“When a man unprincipled in private life, desperate in his fortune, bold in his temper . . . despotic in his ordinary demeanour – known to have scoffed in private at the principles of liberty – when such a man is seen to mount the hobby horse of popularity – to join in the cry of danger to liberty — to take every opportunity of embarrassing the General Government & bringing it under suspicion — to flatter and fall in with all the non sense of the zealots of the day. It may justly be suspected that his object is to throw things into confusion that he may ‘ride the storm and direct the whirlwind.”

  1. I listened to all five hours plus much of the discussion afterwards, not on Fox though. I was impressed with both. Adam Schiff ran this hearing in a statesmen like manner. I was super impressed at how he handled the obnoxious Nunes and Jordan. For some reason they think their mean spirited lying and conspiracy theories were effective. Probably were for the Trump base or use in diversion tactics. I am scared for my country in a way I was not scared during the Vietnam war era. Or the Watergate horror. Then the GOP was more sane and not so hard core against democracy and constitutional rules. I hope upon hope that the public is watching and draw the correct conclusion— that this president and those he surrounds himself with are killing democracy with their belief that they are above the law. I still have some hope in my heart that things will swing back with hard lessons learned.

  2. What a perfect quote to who Trump is and his behavior! As though A.Hamilton had Trump in mind when he wrote this! Thank you for putting this up. I’ve said before that Mike Pompeo is critically tied to this. I’m beginning to think, he was well aware of what was going on, and asked to look the other way by Trump. Almost all the witnesses have given testimony with the center on State Department and all ties to Pompeo and his negligent behavior. USA Today…Pompeo “on shifting sand”. Michael McKinley, his senior adviser, resigned over all this. What was the quid pro quo between Trump and Pompeo and what will Sondland spill…all the president’s men…

  3. I don’t believe we have ever had a worse President in our history. It is beyond scary. And the people around him. Willing to lie and betray the country. For what? It can’t be for him. What are they getting out of this? What could be worth it? It all just makes me sick.

  4. All I keep thinking is, what will people think of these republicans that supported the president? What will be the country be in the future and who will be running it? This is the deciding factor one way or another.

  5. A timeless quote from A. Hamilton. It it is just more proof that the framers of US Constitution over 240 years ago knew men of this caliber existed and could be elected, by the electoral college not the popular vote. Hence the safeguard of impeachment and separation of powers. If only the members of Congress and the Senate would practice country over party. They all took the oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution, sadly I am not sure they take that oath seriously anymore.

  6. Watching Ambassador Yovanovich. Dear lord, the occupant of the big house is real time tweeting, intimidating Ms. Yananovich and any other witness that may come forward.
Nunes opening statements were absolutely repulsive. From the outside looking in, so JMO.

  7. I keep thinking this is a slam dunk case and then I remember the Mueller report. I’m hopeful that enough republicans will have the balls to stand up and vote to remove but I’m prepared for the worst. Tonight Bill Maher posed the possibility of Don Jr running for president in 2024. God help us! What a disgusting thought.

  8. Ambassador Yovanovichs’ opening statement was everything! What an impressive woman! Such a disparate look between Trump and Ambassador Yovanovich. Watched her whole testimony, the fumbling about by the Republicans. Was so pleased to see the applause for her when she finished for the day! We need more heroes like this!
