I have one hard and fast maxim about the truth.  I actually learned it from my husband.  He said it to the kids early, and he said it to them often.  “Tell the truth and you don’t have to remember anything.”

Innocent people tell the truth.  Innocent people have nothing to fear.  Innocent people can’t have their lives ruined by a criminal case if a subpoena will never lead to them.

Relax, Purv. Or not.

By now, many of us have seen the comment below that appeared today on Cait’s Instagram.  There is more to the comment than what I’ve posted, but this is the gist.

Apparently Cait said on Twitter the other day that she would answer fan questions, and she didn’t.  This was not only not acceptable to this particular person, it was also apparently a license for this person to tell Cait everything they think is wrong with her.  In other words, to publicly humiliate her.  Because Cait didn’t answer fan questions,  this person accused her of being drunk and speaking out of turn.  Because Cait said she would answer fan questions and didn’t, this person told Cait that she looks like a complete asshole.  She called her pretentious and haughty and uneducated and told her to fuck herself.  Twice.  This person said all of that and more — IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS FOR EMPHASIS  — because Cait didn’t answer fan questions.

For someone out there, that comment passed as acceptable behavior.  Someone out there thought it was within her rights to publicly demean Cait because she didn’t answer fan questions.

There are only two ways that rational, healthy, well-adjusted people can look at that “fan” comment.  1) Either the person is off their meds or 2) the affront is personal.  There is no question that the response was over-the-top, disproportionate to the “crime” and, above all, extremely personal.  This woman doesn’t like Cait, and used Cait’s not answering fan questions as her outlet to tell her.  It could have been anything Cait did.  All this person wanted was an opening. A supposed reason to tell Cait how much she hated her.  This person wanted Cait to know it wasn’t just one thing that made her a piece of shit, it was a lot of things.

The word “cunt” was intentionally used.  It’s a calling card.

 

 

I’m sorry to say this, but I knew she would take her frustrations out on Cait. Between Mauzy being MIA, criminal charges hanging over her head and Cait making goo goo eyes at Sam last weekend, the old Purv — the real Purv —  couldn’t be contained.

She would like us to think the fandom is littered with the rude and the crude.  She would like us to think that these words could have been written by any number of fans.  The truth is — except for a small handful of people — the Outlander fandom is not a hateful place.  It’s a lot of things, but hateful is not it’s brand id.  Fans like the one above are few and far between.  They stick out like sore thumbs. If one were to look below the surface, these insulting, demeaning, classless women who hide under anonymous names and phony personalities, would almost always lead to, and be associated with one person.  They thrive on incendiary comments under the cloak of anonymity.  This “fan”‘s Instagram account is private.  No one can see her posts, who she follows or who follows her.  Her name is all we know.  It is meaningless.  She is, however, free to leave whatever injurious words she pleases with absolutely no regard for the fallout.  She can walk away cleanly because she is hidden behind a locked account.  I hope she felt better after her self-indulgent outburst.  It made the rest of us feel like shit.

As I’ve said time and time again, trolls are not lurking in the shadows, perfectly fine, only to be set off one day by a photo of Mickey Rooney or an unanswered fan question.  This type of hate is lying in wait.  It is concentrated, experienced, studied and familiar.

They know about her.  Sam and Cait  They know.  How can they not?  Like I said, she leaves her DNA everywhere. How they deal with her going forward will say as much about them as it does about her.
